Natural gas is now flowing through the newly completed CedarLink infrastructure in Kitimat, marking a significant milestone for the future Cedar LNG project.
According to Coastal GasLink Community Relations Project Advisor Tamara Trevelyan, mechanical completion of the facilities was achieved on Mar. 21, with final commissioning completed on Apr. 21.
“The meter station and connector have now achieved substantial completion, and for the first time, gas is flowing through the Cedar Meter Station into the LNG Canada facility as of April 27 of this year, which was an exciting milestone for the teams,” Trevelyan told council.
The CedarLink project is designed to connect Coastal GasLink’s existing pipeline network to Cedar LNG, the floating liquefied natural gas export facility being developed by the Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corporation in Kitimat.
The project includes the CedarLink Connector, the LNG Link Meter Station and a future compressor station that will help deliver natural gas to the Cedar LNG facility once it enters operation.
Construction crews began leaving the site in late March, with demobilization continuing through April and May. Coastal GasLink said all workers had left the community by the May long weekend.
To mark the milestone, the company hosted a celebration event earlier this year, bringing together project partners and local leaders. The event also featured a commemorative sign created by local artist Bronze Star recognizing the significance of the project.
Meanwhile, Coastal GasLink says it continues to focus on safely operating its pipeline system while advancing restoration and monitoring work along the route.
