Children attending the new ḡuláli Childcare Centre in Kitimat are now enjoying a purpose-built outdoor play area made possible in part by a $150,000 contribution from LNG Canada.
The funding supported the creation of the playground at the new childcare centre, located within the Tamitik Status of Women (TSW) housing development, which officially opened earlier this spring.
The new facility combines transitional and long-term housing for women and their children with the play-based ḡuláli Childcare Centre, creating a space designed to support both families and early childhood development.
LNG Canada says the project aligns with its community investment strategy, which focuses on supporting organizations that strengthen local communities and improve access to opportunities for families.
Tamitik Status of Women said the outdoor play space is an important part of the childcare centre’s vision.
“At ḡuláli Childcare Centre, we strive for a program that supports and encourages growth in all areas of childhood development,” the organization said. “We wanted our centre to be a place where all children can play and learn with quality materials and furnishings. Thanks to LNG Canada’s contributions, we have built an environment where children can engage in a play based, educational experience that is relevant, meaningful, and considers their unique needs and learning styles.”
LNG Canada said supporting organizations like Tamitik Status of Women is a key part of its social investment strategy, noting projects that benefit women, children and families help create stronger and more inclusive communities.
The company said the new playground is an example of how partnerships with local organizations can help provide lasting benefits for future generations.
