High winds bring elevated wildfire risks to Northwest Fire Centre

The Northwest Fire Centre is urging the public to use caution while burning as high winds are expected across the southern half of its region.

The centre added it with drier conditions increase the risk of wildfires, especially in lower elevations where dead grass and leaves are available to catch fire.

It is also reminding anyone who conducted a category two or three pile burn over the winter to check sites and ensure they are extinguished.

The centre further asks those planning a fire of any size monitor the upcoming forecast and ensure no burning restrictions are in place.

No fire restrictions are currently in effect for the Northwest Fire Centre.

More information about open burning can be found on the province’s website
