Charity hockey game returns to Kitimat

Sirens will be traded for skates and turnout gear for jerseys as the annual Guns and Hoses hockey game returns to Kitimat, bringing first responders back to the ice for a night of competition.

The game is scheduled to take place at the Kitimat Tamitik Arena on Saturday, Feb. 21 where members of the Kitimat RCMP are set to face off against the Kitimat Fire Department.

Organizers said the Guns and Hoses game raised $20,000 last year, a record total for the event. Proceeds will go to the Kitimat firefighters’ charitable foundation, which supports nonprofit children’s organizations in the local community.

Both teams have already begun training and preparing for this year’s game, organizers said, with the goal of matching or surpassing last year’s fundraising total.

The event is expected to draw strong local support once again, and residents are being encouraged to attend, support their favourite team and donate to the cause.

More details about tickets and event activities are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
