Kitimat residents can expect increased noise and flaring as LNG Canada announces the planned restart of Train 2.
The company said in a statement that flaring events are expected to start on or about Jan. 4. During that time, flaring will happen intermittently, with visible flames ranging from about 15 metres to as high as 90 metres.
LNG Canada explained that this work will likely create more noise and visible emissions.
LNG Canada said flaring is a safety measure checked by the province. It helps burn off natural gas in a safe, controlled way during certain operations.
LNG Canada also noted that this level of flaring isn’t expected once the plant is running normally.
The company said that they will keep an eye on things as the restart happens and appreciates the community’s patience as work continues at the Kitimat site.
