Winter conditions return to north coast with snowfall warning in effect

Kitimat residents are bracing for another wave of snow as Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the region.

A prolonged period of snowfall is expected to affect inland sections of the North Coast, including Kitimat, with total accumulations of 15 to 25 centimetres forecast through tonight into Tuesday morning.

The snowfall is being driven by an incoming frontal system combining with cold air, producing snow that is expected to be heavy at times. Snow is expected to continue through the evening before changing over to rain around midnight.

Travel conditions are expected to worsen as snowfall continues. Roads and walkways may become slippery and difficult to navigate, particularly during periods of heavier snowfall.

Drivers are being advised to prepare for rapidly changing conditions and to allow extra time for travel. Drivers are being advised to postpone non-essential trips and ensure winter driving supplies are on hand.
