Injured hunter rescued near Mount Atna after helicopter response

A 30-year-old hunter was rescued near Mount Atna on Wednesday morning after being injured in a remote area known as Icy Pass.

Kitimat Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) was called in by B.C. Ambulance Services to assist with the operation. Eight trained volunteers with GSAR responded to the operation, four of whom were flown in by helicopter to reach the injured man.

The team found the hunter and provided medical assistance on scene before airlifting the man to Kitimat Airpark. B.C. Ambulance paramedics then received the patient and transported him for medical treatment. Two search and rescue personnel accompanied the man during the flight, while the remaining rescuers remained behind until the helicopter returned.

Kitimat GSAR confirmed the individual was safely located and receiving proper care.

The team would like to thank the Kitimat Fire Department, BC Ambulance Service, Summit Helicopters, and the RCMP for their assistance during the rescue.

Search and Rescue teams are comprised of professional volunteers who respond to emergencies in every season and all conditions throughout British Columbia. Kitimat GSAR would like to remind anyone heading into the outdoors to be well-prepared.
